The Limitations of the Market and the State

The status quo has two solutions for every problem: the market and the state. Whatever the market can’t fix, the state can fix. These are the only recognized systems and the only recognized solutions.

While there is a role for the market and the state, these systems have built-in limits. The majority of life lies well beyond those limits. In very narrow spheres of human activity, markets and the state provide limited solutions. But beyond those narrow spheres, the market and the state become the problem, not the solution.

Attempting to solve every problem with the market and the state destroys the planet and the economy.
